I dont know all the intricate technical details so I'm explaining this the best way i can
Mastodon runs off the ActivityPub protocol, and if you get banned off an instance, you no longer have access to your profile. You have to move to a new instance and start a new profile.
Bluesky runs off of ATprotocol and you can migrate your profile to a different PDS.
Recently, Bluesky owners have been getting a lot of criticism for transphobia and selective banning. They also banned a Black person for saying hey, yall sure do follow a lot of racist accounts.
Rudy, the dude who runs Blacksky, a feed just for Black ppl is working on a adding something called an app layer to Blacksky so if you get banned from Bluesky you can still post
It will be interesting to see how decentralization truly works
I can def see them banning PDSs one day. I wish Black ppl went to Mastodon as it is open source
But either way its good shit to see ppl taking ownership of their own digital communities
