What's going on brehs. I'm curious if any other brehs are into retro gaming. I am building up a physical collection of games in my mancave. I do partake in emulation; my PSP, vita and 3ds are modded.

I'm into retro gaming. I've not been as active the last couple of years. But I do enjoy going to New shops that open around me and browse the collections. What put me on the wave is a year or two before COVID. I was helping a friend move and he had a GameCube in his basement. I was all I never played that system. He asked if I wanted it and said sure.

Took it home it worked and then I set out looking for games for it. Felt/still feel that GC games can be pricey but the system had a short run.

A couple of my friends have a stand up arcade cabinet loaded with an emulator basically but they have huge libraries of games and you can just select your game and have at it.

I don't get them advertised as often but IG has almost convinced me a couple of times to buy one of those Fire stick like plug ins that are like emulators loaded with retro games.

Another one of my friends had the NES mini and some how had an updated version of Super Tecmo Bowl. But with modern players. So one of our Fantasy Football drafts we had that running sims in the background and it was so fun seeing all the classic Tecmo Bowl animations but with new players.

Retro gaming though is definitely a fun hobby.

Idk what we’re considering retro but I have all my consoles from the PS3 era and back. Only console I never owned was the SNES, and I lost my PS2 somehow. Still have PS3, 360, OG Xbox, Dreamcast, PSX, Saturn, N64,Genesis and NES.

I was actively trying to buy games for Saturn and DC til COVID came and prices went stupid, now I strictly emulate.

Yeah I consider PS3 and back retro. Yeah man the prices are going stupid. I was trying to find a GameCube game, shit was expensive AF. I try to buy stuff local if I can help it. Me and the wifey are gamers, and love playing older games. If you have an recommendations, we'd love to hear it.

You and I both brother. I love going into retro game stores they have so much cool stuff even if you don't want to buy. I have a PS3, N64, GameCube, Dreamcast, PSP, 3DS and Vita ATM. I'm looking into getting a genesis, snes, nes, and PS1 ATM.

Modded games are the GOAT, I remember seeing a modded WWF no mercy with a recent roster. I have respect for the modder/emulation community, we are eating good bc of them
:wow:
Running through PSP games since I haven't played any since high school. Underrated system..playing god of war on the go is crazy.

I loved playing Peacewalker and Assassin's Creed on that when I was a teen. I have such fond memories. If you haven't modded it, trust me breh you won't regret it. It's easy and just make sure you buy a large SD card.

I collect old edutainment games and fmv games. Also point and click games.

Good shit breh, if you don't mind me asking what's your favorite game from your collection?

Well I do own sonic schoolhouse got that from a 17-18 game collection of brand new boxed and sealed pc games from the 90s from a guy in Mexico for only $318 which also came with Hercules and that one Donald Duck side scroller game where he’s a kung fu guy and worms and some other sets games and two floppy disc games and some other games. Also I own both I.M.MEEN and chill manor. Also own black dahlia and ripper. Just need to buy hell and I’ll have the whole take two fmv trilogy.

That's really interesting. I'm going to look up those other games out of curiosity. I loved Worms as a kid, just making sure we're talking about the same thing. Worms is a game were you have a team vs another team or maybe more. My favourite was the super sheep and banana bomb, man I haven't played that since 06. The memories :wow:

No doubt...I'm emulating 99% of my shit these days (unless its something demanding like MGS4). I haven't played much of anything aside from stuff I can pick up and put down easy like Cave shooters. Besides that, I've been down a PC Engine/Neo Geo/Saturn rabbit hole for the past few years, but there's been a bunch of translations and fixes for older games I've been meaning to get to, Castlevania SOTN on Saturn is one of them.

The OG port was shitty, so the community fixed it up and made an ultimate edition with the ram expansion pack so you can finally play it with all the fixes, plus the extra content that isn't on the playstation. So if you're a Castlevania fan I'd recommend it.

Also IDK if you're a shmup fan but this game is mad fun.

This one is hard af, not gonna front but its dope

Also don't know if you're into visual novels but I fukked with this joint....this and Snatcher were dope preludes to MGS as far as Kojima's work

I emulated this PC 98 version just for the pixel art. It was a bitch get going but it was worth it :wow:

Breh MGS4 was a masterpiece, I haven't played it since 09. I gotta play that again. Man I love Castlevania, ngl I was introduced to it during covid via the Netflix show but I fucked with it. I was recently playing Castlevania on NES, those
:flabbynsick: niggas were going through it, that shit is tough.

One game I loved was a dragon Ball z RPG that was mainly in Japan. Someone translated it and it was fun. I might have the download info but I'm not sure, it's been a long time.

Breh I've been wanting to play policenauts since MGS1. Would you mind telling me how you liked the game and the general idea of it. I would appreciate that breh.

Emulation is great community projects like Fightcade are crazy that you can play old school arcade fighters with people all over the globe. I got into it heavy during the pandemic, putting pressure on fools in Hyper fighting and KOF 95.
:ahh: :blessed:

I got a new AV receiver with more HDMI plugs and composite/component upconversion to 4k and plugged old consoles to it , rocked my ol 60gig PS3 till it popped , so I copped a Slim ps3 modded it and put a bunch of games in it and A Fat PS2 modded it for HDMI out and games of the harddrive. The sound and controls are so much accurate than emulation. my new hobby now is buying old consoles fixing them up, modding them and add them to the gaming room even got a soldering kit Got all gens of Sony working playstation 1 through 4 games modded, Gon cop a 360 and grab my old NES and SNES from my momma crib restore and mod those. I love YouTube for stuff like this there are easy guides to follow on how to do it.

No doubt man, even Castlevania for SNES kicks my ass.

Yo I remember hearing about that DBZ joint, I'll have to peep. So many translations and dope emulation projects are finally happening it's hard to keep up.

In light of that, I've been meaning to cop one of these on and fill it with games on a dedicated monitor. Not sure if you've heard of this project but the community has made significant strides over the past few years and for everything up to the PSX gen its pretty much hardware accurate/perfect, even better than pc emulation. https://www.retrorgb.com/mister.html

I fukked with Policenauts heavy. I didn't finish my playthrough cause I was on the PC 98 (and it was in Japanese, I mostly wanted to admire the art style which unfortunately was changed for all the other ports). But since its a visual novel I watched a playthrough online and honestly I didn't feel like I missed anything.

The story is prototypical Kojima, going from

So I'd suggest at least a watch of a playthrough, the story is excellent. It's about a breh part of a larger police force who goes on a mission to space, gets lost in orbit, and is retrieved years later. Everyone he knows has aged (except for him due to being in space) and moved on in life. In the current day, there's a space colony called beyond coast were a gang of people are living, but he's stayed behind on Earth, running a private detective agency. His ex wife reaches out cause her new husband is missing on the beyond coast colony and right after you meet up with her she gets merked.

And that's all in the first few minutes :whoo:

I'd also highly recommend Snatcher on Sega CD, Kojima killed that. Probably my favorite non-MGS title from him. Maybe my favorite period depending on the day. It's also a visual novel, but I played through it. I would say watching it is still great though, like watching a crazy sci-fi horror joint.

Got a Sega Dreamcast collection I’ve built over the past year. Last game was SF3 2nd Impact/New Gen double disc.

Also noticed a LOT of people in real life are going the retro route. I know a couple guys in recent years who bought PSPs and right now on YouTube you can find hundreds of videos of 18 year olds and younger playing PS2 for the first time. In fact MANY of them revere it more than the P5 and rightfully so lol

So many classics , PS2 alone is 100 games short of 11'000 for it's full library and so many gems. PSP is also a beast with a lot of portable/lite versions of PS2 games. For example my kids are 14 and 12 playing the shyt of out fight night. And Xmen legends and I haven't even showed them the elite RPG's yet

Since we taking Kojima and PS2, everyone loves MGS but check out Zone of the Enders 2. 1 is ok but 2 is a GOATED mecha game made by Kojima. Wish he continued that series.

Its on my list, My sister in Law just hit me up she got a working slim PS2 at a yard sale and I'm setting that one up for the kids feed it via Nas and ethernet. I'm getting some new drives this weekend at microcenter and Gon hit up newsgroups.

If anyone is interested in an easy and cheap way of playing physical classic games. Try getting the polymega.

I think I found it breh, enjoy.

Thanks breh, I appreciate it. I'm going to download it and put on my vita. Some weed and that is going to be :wow: I've been looking so something that hits different like MGS.

This is why I love the emulation scene, people do it just for the love of the games and to make things as smooth as possible. I ate well from them as a poor jit

PS2 was one of the all time goats, the system and library were :whew:. I'm glad the younger folks are enjoying it, graphics aren't everything fr. It's quality that matters.

Me and my brothers got lucky one of our wealthy uncles visited us and bought us that. Going from PS1 to PS2 was crazy. The graphics upgrade was on another level man.

Nice breh! I'm curious of what kinda games you accumulated if you don't mind. I recently got MK Gold for the DC, man some of those games can be pricey online.

I loved MK4 growing up and I only had a PS1 so I've always wanted MK Gold and the DC in general. I got an amazing deal for an original one without any scratches with the og case for 30 bucks.

I bought a Steam Deck a couple of years ago primarily for this purpose. I even got the kids playing some old school games - got them frustrated with Contra on the NES :pachaha:

Forgot to respond to you breh.

That's how you do it! Games were hard as hell back in the day. I would like to be a father in the future and I would do the same thing
:mjlol:

You got them on Contra on NES
:laff: :laff:

Amazing deal on that MK Gold.

I have:

Soul Caliber
SF3 W Impact
MvC (Japanese)
CvS2 (Japanese)
Virtua Fighter 3 TB (I play this the most; so fun playing arcade mode after a day of work)
NBA 2K & 2K1
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing

Gotta get some adventure games too eventually.

Just got a few smart memory cards for my ps2's that let you load the games via SD and also save game data individually for each game.

For Xmas will look into either the Wii or WiiU depending on the connectivity and software available.

gon have the early 2000's gen on lock

About 6-7 years ago I copped a Wii U and put custom firmware on it, back when the switch first came out and they were basically giving them away. Very straightforward to do and dope. Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is still my shit. Homebrew channel was the way then but I believe it’s changed now and even easier.

I recently modded my PS2 with the PSBBN dashboard. It adds a bunch of stuff, but mainly you can now emulate PS1 games on the PS2. It could only run physical PS1 disks before with softmods. I sold the majority of my retro collection for space issues, but kept the PS2, Dreamcast and a few handhelds around.

On Dreamcast I collect the Shenmue games. I have the US, Japanese and PAL versions of Shenmue 1 and 2. It's one of my all time favorites. A side note with that, the spiritual successor of Shenmue is the Yakuza games and their spinoffs. They are more combat focused and most people would find them less "boring" than Shenmue. Everytime I bring up liking Japanese games, someone brings up Yakuza and it kills me a little inside each time since they seem to get a game a year and Shenmue's story will likely never be finished.
