The Essential Anime Thread

This season looks like a struggle, I'ma need breh tripleaamin to get here and tell me if there's any hidden gem in the coming weeks :damn:

Shit is dry as hell. Water Magician was dope. Everything else was meh.

Someone put me onto some new shit once I finish my hero and demon Slayer I don't have anything to watch.

Probably wait until I try all the shows I'm watching first. Before posting about it. I will stop posting on the dead site but decide to make a website/blog for all the stuff I watch, read, and play. Here is the calendar for the current season, though. Also going to not be active on the other sites because that shit is bound to die at any time.

Though so far Sanda & Dusk Beyond the End of the World has been the most impressive. The former is being animated by Science Saru and the latter by PA Works. Both are good studios. Also, Sanda is written by the Beastars author, who is the daughter of the creator of Baki.

The other two I am keeping my eye on are Shuumatsu Touring, as I read the manga and it has a lot of charm, but obviously it is not story-driven as it is touring Japan in a post-apocalyptic setting. It is very slice-of-life in feel, but it has some interesting elements mixed in. Tbh I wasn't going to watch it initially, but given that Aniplex is on the production committee and the studio is Nexus, (They did the Emmience in Shadow)with the director being a part of Re Zero S1, 86 Part 2, Mushoku S1 Part 2, Emmience in Shadow, and some more, I got more interested in trying out the anime.

The last one that has me curious is Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle. I read the first light novel volume while on the 2nd right now, and this one plays as more of a coming-of-age story than a RomCom. There is a bit of satire in there, as the Mc is not your typical light novel protagonist. As he is the more confident type in his group of friends, even a bit cocky at times. Though obviously this still fits more into the RomCom crowd in terms of appeal.

I was really looking forward to Wandance, but that shit looks underwhelming af based on the previews.. Having read the manga and that was great.

Also, here is the calendar for this season.

MHA Final Season airing. I have to say, even with the issues I had with S4, S5 & S7. It was an enjoyable ride. But, man, Bones must be praising God it's over. The insane production schedule they had with the seasons and the anime original movies is borderline insane. I will safely assume the team will move to work on Arakawa's new series if I had to guess.

Also, BTW, if you watch MHA on Crunchyroll it isn't on there yet. They are fucking up all their releases. (Really becoming the worst anime streaming service at this point.) It's on Hulu or on your usual pirate sites, obviously.

No clue she had a new series getting adapted :ohhh: just google'd it and it's coming out next year? holy shit :damn:

SxF is back for S3! For manga readers, the episode PV for S3 Episode 2 looks like it will start Loid's flashback arc at the end of the episode.

With regard to episode S3 Episode 1

Anya helps to save the day but gets rewarded with studying, no anime, and a bad dinner. Truly suffering from success.
:mjlol:

Frankie & Fiona is a pairing that we have not seen yet. Though the interesting part is that Frankie mentions that those guys were after him. Kind of points out the differences between her and Loid in that whatever business had them going after her, Loid would have taken care of it more smoothly.

S1 was a pretty good adaptation of the manga. S2 will most likely be 2 cours and the 2nd half will have more story aspects to finish up Act 1.

Kind of surprised there was no content warning for Todays Gachiakuta episode. Then again, Crunchyroll has been messing up most of their uploads this weekend.

Playing Ghost of Yotei with Japanese audio and I swore I recognized the MC's voice from somewhere and turns out she's done a ton of anime :pachaha:

Lately I have been noticing more crossover between anime voice actors and ones doing games. My guess is that a bigger portion of the dialogue is being voiced, they are willing to spend the extra money.

Looking at the Metaphor:ReFantazio Japanese cast, it is beyond stacked to an insane degree. Like even the minor characters.

The dub isn't out yet right?

Finished what is the first season of "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid"

  • For the most part, it works well as a great supernatural slice of life. It appeals well to those fans.
  • KyoAni visuals are top-tier usual. Though in this one it is super detailed and visually stunning, as drawing the dragons in 2D is massively impressive to add on the animation surrounding them.
  • The theme of dragons and humans coexisting is done a pretty solid job.
    • Kobayashi is a bit of a loner, while Tooru fills that gap, which gives her a purpose for living.
    • Riko in her class is isolated, and Kanna being her friend gives her that.
    • Fafnir is beyond a harsh critic of humans, but being friends and living with Makoto gives him someone to care about.
    • Lucoa gives Shouta a family-like figure in his life.
  • Probably the biggest issue in this anime is the comedy and fanservice. Anytime it does go for comedy, it is most of the time pretty bad. It's less about how much it does it but how it does it. The way Riko acts like if Kanna comes into contact with her. Probably the biggest thing is how Lucoa is treated as a fan service tool, and considering that Shouta is a kid makes it feel very uncomfortable and
Though for the most part it achieves itself as a good wholesome show with some well-animated action scenes, which appear in 2-3 episodes. Though if you are not big on SoL or really are anti-fanservice, then this would be an easy skip.

7/10 for me.

I got into collecting blu ray to avoid relying on streaming. I have been rewatching one punch man recently.

Hensuki is a hillarious ecchi. Irresponsible captain tylor is a great show if you don’t mind a cliffhanger ova. Both have great dubs too.

Crunchyroll Manga rolled out today. It’s free if you have the ultimate fan package ($15 a month).

Its not bad
The only thing is Viz (SJ App & Viz app) is still a much better deal, though at least this is a subscription service. People should def see what they have since these aren't translated by Crunchy. Thank god lol.

Dusk Beyond the End of the World - Episode 2

Yuugure asking Akira to marry her feels like she was an AI who learned about Towasa's feelings for him. Of course, in classic AI fashion, it is offering some awful execution. Essentially getting straight to the point in asking it, but of course not understanding what marrying someone means to Akira, given who he has feelings for.

Though with the other Androids looking like Towasa I am wondering if she was kept asleep like how Akira was for all of this time. That is just one theory; the other is that close to her death is when these androids could have been developing. If I had to guess, it would be one of these two scenarios. I also do wonder how Yoyiama & Hakubo differ from Yuugure outside of personality.

We also got introduced to Letogians, and they are a group that gave up their human rights. So in this world they basically are slaves. Considering who OWEL is, I bet they just manipulated things for civilians to become one. Amoru betraying them isn't a huge surprise, given they showed her their back, which is what Letogians have. I wonder if those books OWEL burned could have had significance to the old world? Though the whole sequence of being captured was pretty poor with another cartoonish evil leader, and I don't see why they couldn't move until Amoru hit that leader. Outside of story reasons, obviously.

I did like when Akira said, Well, you are an android, after all. Yuugure mentions not sharing classified data but wants to marry him. Like Akira, she is not being cooperative and basically is disruptive. Hell, if he didn't need her protection, there is no reason for him to stick with her. Hopefully this is the start of some development for her even though she is an android.

Man, it's been so long since I watched Dorohedoro that I don't even remember most of it :snoop:
I never saw since that was before I was watching seasonals like that. Though I do plan to read the manga after reading Golden Kamuy.

Mappa had the director focus only on AoT which makes sense since Dorohedoro aired in winter 2020. AoT was in production since then and until it wrapped up.

Come on, MAPPA, announce Vinland S3 since the manga is finished now :hamster:

I really liked it at the time, was the first show that made me interested in Mappa as a studio. I know they had other hits before it, but I never bothered to look for them as a studio :heh:

They had hits like Yuri on Ice, Banana Fish & Zombieland Sage. Though JJK was kind of what propelled it to be as popular as it is now. Which then led to AoT as well. As JJK & AoT are on another level of popularity.

Funny thing with Mappa nowadays, outside their A team that does CSM & JJK. The rest of the production line seems much healthier since AoT ended. It's just that the push for their A team is borderline insane that Mappa has the rep it has.

Honestly, I am just wondering when they finished making the Reze movie because starting JJK S3 in January is insane.

Almost done the Namek arc in DBZ and have to say Bulma done turned into an isufferable LSA type bird......giving me Skyler White from Breaking Bad levels of irritation... :hhh:

Rewatching Dragon Ball. Currently in the Tien Shinhan saga. Tried watching Jujutsu Kaisen and gave up after the 12th episode. Modern anime is trash.

Have you tried Attack on Titan?
Yes, I gave up after the end of season 3 because I couldn't buy into the lore when they ended up explaining it. I really liked the first season and the mystery surrounding the titans but it devolved quickly for me. Ehren was extremely annoying and they overpowered a lot of characters. The pacing was off for me. Out of respect to the studio I even watched Vinland. Let's, just say I prefer a lot of the older anime, pre 2009. I tried getting into everything new but my attention wanders because the storytelling and pacing doesn't match the older, traditional formats from the past that I am used to.

I'm sure if I look at Myanimelist I'll probably get nostalgic and start watching older anime again.

@Jmare007

After S2, I really wouldn't jump on the manga unless you really want to read the series no matter what. Art in the manga does not touch how good the visuals are in the anime.

The main issue is the author & artist are consistently on hiatus to a really high degree. I expect a movie to come out for the arc that follows S2. Leaving the current arc, which is long, is really a bad time to get into the manga, imo. As long as you can avoid spoilers. Tbh it is more worth to stick to being anime-only at this point.
